Looking to purchase a property in Southern Spain? 90 -180 day rule !

What happens if you stay in Spain longer than 90 days?

If you plan to stay in Spain for more than 90 days, you need to be aware of the relevant restrictions and requirements that apply to your country of origin. As an EU citizen, you can travel to any country in the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa for purposes such as tourism. However, if you intend to stay longer than 90 days, you must meet the entry requirements set out by the Spanish government.

This could mean applying for one of several types of visas, such as a short-stay Schengen visa, a combined residence and work visa, a student visa, a residence visa, a long-stay or non-lucrative visa, or a golden visa. British citizens will now need a visa for staying in Spain for longer than 90 days, or for work, professional, artistic, or religious activities due to Brexit.

It's important to note that the same rules apply for those moving to other Schengen area countries such as Portugal or Greece. To ensure you have the most up-to-date information, it's best to directly check the latest arrangements that apply between Spain and your country of origin if you do intend to stay in Sotogrande / Marbella / Zagaleta or Spain in general for an extended period.
