Malaga Airport Achieves Record August with 2.4 Million Passengers

Malaga Airport reached an all-time high in August, welcoming 2.4 million passengers through its terminals. The control tower and runways handled 583 aircraft movements on its busiest day. This impressive performance marks an 18% increase from the previous year and nearly ten points higher than the 2019 record.

These numbers solidify Malaga Airport's position as Spain's fourth-largest airport, with the fastest growth rate among major airports. Notably, it has surpassed pre-pandemic levels while Madrid and Barcelona continue to struggle with declines.

The airport's success can be attributed to robust domestic and international traffic, with a daily average of 78,034 passengers. International flights saw an 18.9% growth, led by the UK, while domestic traffic also rose by 13.1%.

The Costa del Sol was particularly favored in August, with British holidaymakers leading the way, as 615,754 of them either arrived in or departed from Malaga Airport. Following closely were German tourists (187,250 flyers), with visitors from France (120,567), Ireland (115,610), and Italy (112,884) also making a significant impact.

Overall, Malaga Airport's record-breaking August is a testament to its resilience and its role as a key gateway to the Costa del Sol.
